Assessment Integrity in the Age of AI

Assessment Integrity in the Age of AI

Practical Strategies for NZQA Assessment Design, Moderation and Quality Assurance

Artificial intelligence is rapidly changing the way we design, assess and moderate learning. For those working within NZQA and NZQCF environments, this presents both opportunity and challenge—particularly when balancing innovation with assessment integrity, learner authenticity, and quality assurance expectations.

This practical workshop is designed specifically for professionals working in NZQA-regulated tertiary, vocational and work-based learning contexts who are navigating the impact of AI on assessment policy and practice.

Together, we will explore how AI is influencing assessment design, moderation processes, learner declarations, authenticity of evidence, and organisational policy. The session will focus on practical approaches that support valid, fair and robust assessment decisions while responding confidently to the realities of AI in education.

Format: Online Event.

Each workshop is kept intentionally small to allow for in-depth conversation, tailored guidance, a focus on authentic assessment context, and practice-informed scenario.

You’ll explore:

  • AI in assessment policy and practice within NZQA/NZQCF contexts

  • assessment design strategies in the age of generative AI

  • learner authenticity and evidence verification approaches

  • moderation considerations where AI may be part of the learner process

  • AI-use declarations, learner statements and assessment documentation

  • practical quality assurance considerations for assessors, moderators and academic teams

This workshop is ideal for assessors, moderators, quality assurance staff, programme leaders, academic managers and tertiary educators involved in assessment and moderation practice within Aotearoa New Zealand.

Participants will also receive:

✔ Digital Certificate of Participation
✔ Practical take-home guide/resource pack
✔ Tools and prompts to support implementation within their own organisation

This is a practical, discussion-informed workshop grounded in current sector challenges and designed to support confident, quality-assured assessment practice in the age of AI.
